Sale for the Knight 4th May 2024

We held a sale for the knight on Saturday 4 May and although not so many people visited us as usual, it was a really lovely event as some of those that did come along stayed and had a cup of coffee and a chat, so it was a very social morning. We raised £257, which was brilliant. Our next knight sale will be on 27 July and we will be having a stall at the art festival on 31 August and 1 September.

Evening of Readings with Graham Brack – 27 April 2024

For those of you who thought you might come to author/Curate, Graham Brack’s, story evening at Linda’s house on 27 April but didn’t, you missed an absolute treat! What an unusual and magical evening it was. Fourteen people sat in Linda’s very comfortable sitting room listening to Graham read some of his short stories. Not a sound was heard from anyone during the actual reading. There were no microphones, phones or any contemporary devices to intrude on the flow of the stories. We were transported back to the comfort of childhood and the tradition of story-telling that most of us have forgotten. The atmosphere was magical.
Graham read two detective stories before the break and one beautiful story that he described as being ‘a Christmas story’ but was actually much more than that. His kind perception of human nature and gentle sense of humour completely mesmerised everyone. His detectives were humorous and surprising and his ‘murders’ turned out not to be the centre of the story. It was the ingenious plot; the perceptive
description of the characters and places (illustrating that he had actually been to them), and the grasp of different languages that captivated us all.
Thanks go to Linda and Paul for allowing the invasion of their home for this event and for helping to create such a wonderful atmosphere.
Food and wine were consumed in surprisingly large quantities for such a relatively small group of people. The atmosphere and good humour were contagious. People were very generous and, as this was a fundraising event, the amount of funds created by the ticket price and the raffle were an astounding £247. This money will go towards the installation of the toilet and servery in church
We will be holding another reading by Graham; this time at Christmas and the story will be ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens. This
will take place on Saturday 14 December; make sure you put this in your diary, as I am sure the limited places will go very quickly
